Yanbu, located on the Red Sea coast, is one of Saudi Arabia’s premier industrial cities and a major hub for petrochemicals, refineries, and oil exports. Home to Yanbu Industrial City (Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah), the city hosts massive facilities operated by SABIC, Aramco, and other industrial giants. The continuous construction, maintenance, and expansion of these plants generate huge demand for certified welders. Saudi welder jobs in Yanbu offer free visas, accommodation, and high salaries to qualified welders from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Egypt, the Philippines, Indonesia, and other countries. The welding industry in Yanbu employs over 25,000 welders across construction, maintenance, and shutdown projects.
Why Welder Jobs in Yanbu Are Lucrative
Yanbu’s petrochemical and oil refining industries require specialized welding skills for high-pressure piping, structural fabrication, and equipment maintenance. The technical demands of these jobs translate into excellent salaries for qualified welders. Additionally, the constant turnover of construction and shutdown projects ensures continuous employment opportunities throughout the year. The Red Sea coastal climate is milder than inland desert cities, making working conditions more bearable.

Benefits
Free visa, free recruitment, free accommodation in modern A/C labor camps near the industrial area, free meals (three times daily), free transportation, medical insurance, free safety PPE (including specialized welding gear, leather aprons, welding helmets, gloves, safety boots), paid annual leave, overtime pay, end-of-service gratuity, and return air tickets to the home country. Aramco-approved welders also receive performance bonuses, certification renewal allowances, and welding test bonuses (paid for passing periodic re-certifications).
Working Conditions
Welders typically work 8-12 hour shifts, 6 days per week. Shutdown projects (planned maintenance) may require 7-day workweeks with significant overtime for 4-6 weeks. Construction sites have multiple welding stations with proper ventilation. Industrial plants have dedicated workshops and field welding setups. Safety protocols are strictly enforced including hot work permits, fire watch, gas testing for confined space work, and proper ventilation.
Aramco and SABIC Welder Certifications
Aramco and SABIC welding certifications are gold standards in Saudi Arabia. To obtain Aramco approval, welders must pass Aramco’s standardized welding tests at approved facilities. The test typically includes 6G position pipe welding with X-ray inspection of the weld. SABIC has similar certification processes. These certifications are valid for 6 months to 1 year and must be renewed. Certified welders command premium salaries.
Visa and Iqama Process
Specialist welder visas are typically processed quickly given the high demand. After selection (which always includes trade tests), you receive a work visa. Upon arrival, the company arranges Aramco/SABIC site clearance, safety orientations, and Iqama processing. The complete onboarding takes 3-4 weeks before deployment to actual work sites.
Eligibility and Welder Certifications
Candidates must have an ITI welder certificate or equivalent trade qualification, with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of welding experience. Aramco-approved certification (Aramco welding test) or ASME 9 certification is highly preferred. AWS (American Welding Society) certifications are also recognized. Welders must be able to read welding symbols, blueprints, and follow welding procedures (WPS). Physical fitness, good eyesight (with or without correction), and steady hands are essential.
Required Documents
ITI welder certificate, welding test certificates (6G, 3G, 2G), Aramco approval certificate (if available), SABIC approval certificate, ASME or AWS certifications, experience letters covering all previous welding jobs (with details of materials welded, joint types, and welding processes used), valid passport, recent photographs, medical fitness certificate, eye test certificate, police clearance, and safety certifications (NEBOSH, OSHA, H2S awareness).
How to Apply for Welder Jobs in Yanbu
Apply through specialized industrial recruitment agencies that conduct welder trade tests in your home country. Major contractors like L&T, Saipem, Petrofac, and Snamprogetti recruit welders directly through their HR teams (saipem.com/careers, petrofac.com/careers). Welder trade tests typically include practical welding tests with X-ray inspection of the welds. Most tests are conducted at recognized testing centers in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, and other source countries.
Trade Test Preparation
Welder trade tests are rigorous. The test involves: positional welding (6G is most common – pipe at 45 degrees, all positions), specific joint types (butt, fillet), specified materials (carbon steel, stainless steel), and inspection through visual examination plus X-ray/radiography. Failure rate can be high. Practice extensively on actual pipe materials before testing. Ensure your test welds have proper penetration, no porosity, and clean finishes.
Career Growth
Welder career progression: helper → trainee welder → 3G welder → 6G welder → Aramco/SABIC certified welder → senior welder → welding supervisor → welding foreman → welding inspector (CWI/CSWIP) → QA/QC engineer → welding engineer. Specialized paths include underwater welding (offshore work), exotic materials welding (Inconel, titanium), and welding training instructor roles.
Fraud Warning
Welder jobs attract many fraudulent agents promising unrealistically high salaries. Genuine welder positions follow industry standard rates. Real recruiters always include trade tests in the selection process – if anyone offers welder jobs without testing, it’s likely a scam. Never pay SAR 100,000+ to anyone; legitimate fees are SAR 15,000-25,000 maximum.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How important is Aramco approval?
A: Crucial for higher salaries. Aramco-approved welders earn 40-70% more than non-approved welders.
Q: What materials do most jobs involve?
A: Mostly carbon steel pipes and structures. Stainless steel work is common in petrochemicals. Exotic materials (Inconel, duplex, titanium) are specialized and pay premium.
Q: What’s the role of welding supervisor vs welding inspector?
A: Supervisors manage welders and work flow. Inspectors (CWI/CSWIP) verify weld quality through visual examination and review of NDT reports.
Q: How long are shutdown projects?
A: Typically 4-6 weeks of intense work. Multiple shutdowns per year provide premium-rate opportunities for traveling welders.
Q: Can I bring family during welder contracts?
A: Most welder positions are camp-based without family options. Senior welders and supervisors may qualify for family Iqama if salary exceeds SAR 5,000.
Conclusion
Saudi welder jobs in Yanbu offer outstanding earning potential for certified welders willing to work in the petrochemical sector. With free visas, premium salaries, and the opportunity to gain valuable experience with international oil and gas projects, Yanbu is the ideal destination for welders seeking to maximize their career growth in the Gulf.
