Landing a fuel station staff job at a Shell India fuel station is very achievable once you understand what outlets look for. Written for 12th-pass candidates, this 2026 guide explains the work involved, who can apply, what you can earn and a simple application roadmap you can follow today.
About Shell India Fuel Station Jobs in India
Shell India operates through Shell India fuel stations and petrol pumps. These outlets need reliable staff to serve customers, dispense fuel safely, handle payments and keep the forecourt clean and orderly. Because fuel stations are spread across cities, highways and small towns — including places like Kolkata and Indore — hiring happens all year, from entry-level helpers to experienced supervisors. For 12th-pass candidates, a fuel station staff role is often the most realistic starting point, with room to grow over time.
It is worth noting that petrol pump vacancies are usually filled locally by the individual dealer or operator who runs each outlet, rather than only through a single national portal. That means checking with nearby stations and verified listings is often the fastest route to a genuine opening.
What Does a Fuel station staff Do?
The daily work of a fuel station staff at a fuel station is practical and customer-facing. Duties vary by outlet, but usually include:
- Serving customers politely and dispensing the correct fuel quantity accurately.
- Handling cash, card and UPI payments correctly and giving the right change or receipt.
- Following strict safety rules around fuel, fire and no-smoking zones at all times.
- Keeping the forecourt, pumps and customer area clean and tidy.
- Helping with stock, checking meter readings and reporting any issues to the supervisor.
- Working in shifts, including early mornings, evenings or nights as scheduled.
Honesty, punctuality and careful handling of money and fuel matter most. Outlets value a fuel station staff who is reliable, safety-conscious and courteous with customers.

Eligibility & Qualifications
Requirements for a fuel station staff role are usually simple and practical:
- Education: Most roles need 10th or 12th pass; cashier and supervisor roles may prefer a graduate or someone comfortable with basic accounts. This role suits 12th-pass candidates.
- Age: Generally 18 years and above, as fuel handling is involved.
- Basic skills: Simple maths for billing, basic reading, and comfort using a smartphone or POS machine.
- Fitness: Ability to stand for long periods and work in shifts.
- Documents: Valid ID and address proof, education certificates and photographs.
Always confirm the exact eligibility with the specific outlet, as criteria differ between dealers and locations.
Skills That Help You Get Hired
- Honesty with cash and fuel: The single most valued trait at any petrol pump.
- Customer service: Being polite and quick, especially during rush hours.
- Basic digital skills: Handling UPI, cards and POS billing confidently.
- Safety awareness: Following fuel and fire-safety rules without fail.
- Discipline: Turning up on time for shifts and staying alert.
You do not need every skill on day one — outlets usually train new staff on the pump and billing system. A willing, trustworthy attitude goes a long way in interviews.
Salary & Benefits (Approximate)
At petrol pumps and fuel stations, pay is commonly advertised in the approximate range of ₹15,000–₹40,000 per month depending on the role. Helpers usually sit at the lower end, attendants a little higher, and cashiers or supervisors higher still. Actual pay varies by employer, city, shift, overtime and experience, so always confirm the exact salary, allowances and deductions in writing in your official offer letter before joining.
Besides basic pay, some outlets offer incentives, overtime, provident fund (PF) or ESI where applicable, and occasional bonuses. Larger or highway stations sometimes pay a little more due to higher footfall and night shifts. When comparing offers, look at the total package, shift timings and distance from home, not just the headline figure.
How to Apply: Step by Step
- Find genuine openings. Check verified job listings and, importantly, ask directly at nearby Shell India outlets — many hire locally.
- Prepare a simple resume. Keep it short and honest, with your contact number, education and any prior work.
- Keep documents ready. ID proof, education certificates and photographs.
- Apply or visit. Submit your details as instructed, or meet the outlet manager in person.
- Attend the interview. This is usually a short, in-person conversation about your availability, honesty and shift flexibility.
- Confirm the offer in writing. Note the salary, timings and role before joining.
Apply to a few genuine outlets rather than waiting on just one, and follow up politely.
Selection Process: What to Expect
The selection process for a fuel station staff at a fuel station is usually quick and practical. It typically involves a short interview about your background, availability and comfort with shifts and cash handling, followed by document verification. Some outlets give a brief on-the-job trial or training on the pump and billing machine. For 12th-pass candidates, the most important things are to be honest, punctual and clear about the shifts you can work. Being neat, polite and confident during the interview matters as much as your certificates.
Documents You’ll Usually Need
- Aadhaar card or other government photo ID and address proof.
- Education certificates (10th/12th or graduation as relevant).
- Recent passport-size photographs.
- A simple resume or bio-data and any past experience letters.
- Bank account details (for salary) — share these only after you are genuinely hired.
Keep clear copies organised in one folder so you can apply quickly when an opening appears.
Career Growth & Future Scope
A fuel station staff role can be a solid starting point. With experience and a clean, honest work record, staff often move up to cashier, senior attendant or supervisor positions, which carry more responsibility and better pay. As India’s fuel and mobility network keeps expanding — including new outlets and EV charging points — demand for reliable station staff is expected to stay steady. Treat your first job as a learning platform: build trust with the operator, learn the billing and safety systems well, and keep an eye out for supervisor openings.
Practical Tips to Stand Out
- Apply early and be ready to start soon — outlets often need staff quickly.
- Emphasise honesty, punctuality and willingness to do shifts.
- Dress neatly and speak politely at the interview.
- Mention any experience with cash handling, customer service or UPI/POS billing.
- Keep applying to several outlets in parallel until you are hired.
Beware of Job Scams (Important)
Fake petrol-pump job offers are common. Protect yourself:
- Never pay for a job. No genuine outlet or company asks for money for a “dealership form”, registration, uniform or a guaranteed appointment. Any demand for payment is a warning sign.
- Beware fake “petrol pump dealership/appointment” letters. Scammers imitate oil-company letterheads. Verify only through official company websites.
- Never share OTPs or bank passwords. No real recruiter needs your OTP, ATM PIN or full bank credentials to hire you.
- Doubt “too good to be true” offers. Very high pay for little work, or a job without any interview, is a classic scam.
- Verify locally. For pump jobs, visiting or calling the actual outlet is often the safest check.
If something feels wrong, pause and verify before sharing documents or money.
